Two guitars, two distinct voices, and a shared love of jazz, improvisation and the guitar tradition. Gur Liraz and James Scholfield come together for an intimate duo featuring original compositions alongside fresh arrangements of classic guitar repertoire.
The music moves between contemporary jazz, swing, blues and more open improvisational territory, allowing both guitars to function as melodic, harmonic and rhythmic voices. The result is a dynamic conversation between two generations of Berlin-based jazz guitarists, balancing carefully arranged material with spontaneous interplay.
Gur Liraz is an Israeli-born, Berlin-based jazz guitarist and composer. He studied with Peter Bernstein in New York and Ofer Ganor in Tel Aviv and has released several projects as a leader, including Squiggles and When We Were Young with the Fuasi Abdul-Khaliq Organ Ensemble. His playing combines a strong grounding in the jazz tradition with an eclectic approach to composition and improvisation.
James Scholfield is a Berlin-based guitarist, composer and educator whose career spans South Africa, Europe and the United States. Originally from England and raised in South Africa, he has performed at major venues and festivals including Blue Note New York, Ronnie Scott’s and Montreux Jazz Festival, and toured extensively with singer Curtis Stigers. His music draws on jazz alongside the musical traditions of Southern Africa.
